Individual Counseling:

Individual therapy sessions gives you the opportunity to talk about your concerns, difficulties, or situations in a confidential setting, to help you improve your everyday life. Individual therapy can help you work toward controlling symptoms that are negatively impacting your life. The goal of therapy is to provide you with tools and skills to improve your ability to cope with life difficulties.

In individual therapy, you may explore your thoughts, feelings, and behavioral patterns, learn problem-solving skills, and discover your strengths. Typically, people attend sessions weekly or every other week. Every person’s situation is unique. Some people attend a few sessions, while others attend sessions for a longer timeframe. You will work with me to decide what is best for you.

Couples Counseling:

Couples therapy sessions give you and your partner a safe, nonjudgemental space to talk about the problems in your relationship. The first step of couples counseling is to meet with you as a couple to learn more about you and your relationship. You will be asked to complete the Gottman Relationship Checkup prior to meeting with me individually. In the fourth session, we will review the assessment, learn about your strengths and weaknesses as a couple, and develop goals for your relationship. As you progress in couples counseling, you will learn to improve your friendship, manage conflict, and restore your connection with each other.

Insurance companies require there to be an identified individual, not the couple, as the “client on record”. To establish medical need, the individual must receive a mental health diagnosis, and all treatment goals and follow-up sessions must focus on improving symptoms of the diagnosis for the individual. Couples that do not meet this criteria will be charged the private pay rate. The couple would be considered the client and all sessions would focus on improving the relationship.
